I have now been to many different schools, and while the schools don't begin to approach American standards, most of what I see is acceptable. Then we went to the Islamic Boarding School. Nothing could have prepared me for this experience. It was totally transformational: like walking into a Charles Dickens storybook from the 18th century. The students live in squalor, and sleep twenty to a room on a dingy concrete floor, in a drab room that makes most jail cells look luxurious.
