“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”
― Augustine of Hippo
In a few months, I will be embarking upon an adventure to the other side of the world, and to a world which I know very little about. I dread the marathon endurance test of another 14 hour flight, but anticipate that what I encounter at the final destination, will make it all seem worthwhile. Indonesia is an exotic destination where I am going to be bombarded with newness on all levels, so a head on collision with culture shock. I have never traveled to a nation before where most of the population is Muslim. I have never been on the equator before. I have never been to a country where the exchange rate of $1.00 to almost 10,000 rupiahs, makes you feel like a millionaire before you even leave home. I have never been to a country of such diversity of the biosphere with active volcanoes and earthquakes, situated in the middle of the ring of fire. I hope to meet people from all walks of life, to see exotic animals like the Komodo Dragon, to gorge myself on tropical fruits, to swim at beautiful beaches, and to exchange ideas with students and teachers about how to develop global collaborative meaningful projects.
