Travel Grants for Educators to Experience the World
National Endowment for the Humanities has generous grants to fund teacher seminars in countries around the world. These are lead by a scholar on a particular topic of interest and typically last from two to five weeks. They have topics which would interest teachers in all different curricular areas, but the focus is on the humanities. Check them out at:

The Hilton Hotel Corporation offers competitive grants to fund teacher travel around the world, called "The Teacher Treks Travel Competition". This grant is worth up to $6000 and the teacher's schools gets $2500 to implement new innovative programs. The teacher designs their own program of study and the destinations in the world they wish to visit. The program requires that you stay at Hilton Hotels. GAPP The German American Partnership Program (GAPP) is a non-profit high school exchange program between schools in Germany and the United States, sponsored by the German Foreign Office and by the US Department of State. They sponsor programs for high school exchanges in the summer, as well as teacher travel to Germany.

The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program seeks to foster mutual understanding .between US teachers and teachers abroad. They sponsor American teachers to take courses at international universities. The Institute of International Education (IIE) administers the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program on behalf of the U.S. Department
of State. Teachers will observe best practices in their host country and complete a Capstone Project.

The Korea Society offers scholarships for American teachers to study Korean culture while traveling throughout South Korea. They sponsor a summer fellowship in Korean studies which features a unique opportunity for extensive travel and professional development.

The Teachers for Global Classrooms Program is sponsored by IREX and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, under the auspices of The US Department of State. Under a generous grant, this program funded my travel to Indonesia. Participants complete a course on Global Education and are then assigned to an international field experience. Participants must complete a Capstone Project and develop meaningful collaborative projects between their students and the host country.
