In June 2013 I embarked on a trip of a lifetime to experience an entirely new culture in Indonesia. As a travel cohort in The Teachers for Global Classrooms program I had the opportunity to visit a myriad of different schools and view firsthand the challenges of building a world class education in developing nations. Schools were vastly different then those in the USA, the Islamic values and traditions were very much a part of the school curriculum, teachers received the respect of being a "guru", students appreciated the opportunity of an education, and everywhere they welcomed the Americans as best friends and master teachers. This was retail diplomacy at its best: building friendships with a handshake and smile, one at a time. I will always treasure my friends in Indonesia and the amazing memories of an adventure of a lifetime.
